چکیده

Objective: To investigate the effects of hypergravity on retinal structure in rat. Methods: Retinal structure and protein expression were examined by hematoxylin and eosin stain, immunohistochemistry and Western blot in the Sprague-Dawley® rats induced by hypergravity with short arm centrifuge (+10 Gz/3 min). Results: Retinal structure had no substantial change after hypergravity stimulation, but the expression levels of glial fibrillary acidic protein and ciliary neurotrophic factor were significantly increased by hypergravity stimulation. Conclusion: Hypergravity induced the expression levels of ciliary neurotrophic factor, which protect retinal structure against hypergravity stimulation with short time and high +Gz value in rat.

The trophic effect of ciliary neurotrophic factor on injured masseter muscle in rat

Objective(s): Occlusal trauma is one of the most common forms of oral biting dysfunction. Long-term occlusal trauma could weaken the stomatognathic system; especially damage one’s masticatory muscle. Through using the rat model, this study investigated the trophic effect of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) on injured masseter muscle. Materials and Methods: Male Wistar rats (n=36) were random...

Neurotrophic factors minimize the retinal toxicity of verteporfin photodynamic therapy.

PURPOSE A prior study showed that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) rescues photoreceptors from collateral retinal damage caused by photodynamic therapy (PDT). This study was conducted to determine whether ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), a combination of BDNF and CNTF, or pigment epithelial cell-derived growth factor (PEDF) might protect photoreceptors and retinal function more effec...

Cerebral circulation during mild +Gz hypergravity by short-arm human centrifuge.

We examined changes in cerebral circulation in 15 healthy men during exposure to mild +Gz hypergravity (1.5 Gz, head-to-foot) using a short-arm centrifuge. Continuous arterial pressure waveform (tonometry), cerebral blood flow (CBF) velocity in the middle cerebral artery (transcranial Doppler ultrasonography), and partial pressure of end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETco(2)) were measured in the sitti...

Chronic intravitreous infusion of ciliary neurotrophic factor modulates electrical retinal stimulation thresholds in the RCS rat.

PURPOSE To determine whether the sustained intravitreous delivery of CNTF modulates cortical response thresholds to electrical retinal stimulation in the RCS rat model of retinal degeneration. METHODS Animals were assigned to four groups: untreated, nonsurgical control and infusion groups of 10 ng/d CNTF, 1 ng/d CNTF, and PBS vehicle control. Thresholds for electrically evoked cortical potent...

Cell based therapies in retinal diseases

Background Degenerative retinal diseases, including age related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and hereditary retinal dystrophies are major causes of blindness. The principal defect in these diseases is cell loss which is amenable to both cell based neuroprotective and neuroregenerative therapies. To briefly review the lines of research and potential candidates for cell based therapies among ...
